As Resendiz Brothers ramps up its protea season, it offers us its own version of diamonds, the gem of the Protea Industry – Pink Ice.

For Flower geeks like us, there are a few floral seasons that just fill us with happiness in the fall, and we always pay close attention to what is happening with them every year. Here is a quick list of flowers we look forward to exploring every Fall:
New Zealand Peonies, African Coned Leucas, Fall Cymbidiums, Eucalyptus, Sandersonia, Berzelias & Brunias, Pinecones, Amaryllis, Holly....
The Season for Protea Pink Ice from Resendiz really is THE phenomenon though. It’s the feathery texture, I think. Maybe it’s the 3-week vase life... with so many bullet points, it’s hard to pin down why these Proteas have such a cult following.
One theory we have is that the variety (pink ice) is said to be the hardiest of all protea varieties and also, it is particularly well suited to the arid, hilly landscape at Resendiz. (which is just spectacular by the way... have you seen the 100 acres of Rainbow Crest farmland at Resendiz???)
This magical pairing could be what makes for the abundant, optimal production conditions; which means more volume availability and higher quality, which in turn means they last longer, which in turn could give everyone a better floral experience! Makes sense that this is why people would come back to it year after year. Just a theory.
Mel Resendiz says in this video: “You cannot see the buds or flowers because there are a lot of side shoots (...) those side shoots protect the flower (from getting) sunburn.”
Located in Rainbow, California, the arid desert-like climate is just perfect for growing Protea and it shows. Resendiz produces (in our opinion) one of the most beautiful, high quality Proteas around. Resendiz Brothers are no slouches either; one of the first farm operations to be certified in California under the brand-spanking new Bloomcheck Certification, Resendiz continues to pioneer sustainability in the floral industry.
The best part is that their constant striving toward excellence has the added side effect of in turn producing better flowers. Their pure passion and commitment to flowers shows in every bloom, in every action. This might sound like an ad for them, but we assure you, this is not a sponsored post in any way. We really just love Resendiz and want to share that with you. If you don’t know who they are yet, you will see what we mean. For those who do agree with this, well, you already know! ;)

Care & Handling
Unpack the flowers immediately.
Cut up to 1/2 inch off the stems and remove leaves that will end up in the water.
Store flowers in a floral cooler or refrigerator between 36-50 F.
Removing a few leaves around the flower head will enhance the flower display.
Use a commercial flower preservative for added longevity.
Check water levels frequently, flowers get very thirsty.
The woody stems can cloud up the water, so be sure to recut and and change water on your beautiful Proteas, they will last much longer in fresh, preservative water
Protea dry well by hanging them upside down in a dark location or just let your arrangement dry naturally.
If you are looking for an extremely long-lasting flower that stores well, hydrates exceptionally and fits the bill for summer, Fall and even fall transitional designs, looks no further than Protea Pink Ice. It offers you incredible value for your money.
The season typically starts in September and ends in December. The crop is flushing right now which means quality and availability are peaking out!
